Professions that disappear
This morning I was reading an article in La Vanguardia entitled Work without workers? in which Bill Gates predicts the disappearance of dozens of professions due to technological change. Of course, the article does not reveal anything that we did not already know, and what it perhaps does is warn about the speed of changes, something that since the invention of the wheel has occurred in geometric progression.
Although for copyright reasons I can not reproduce the article, above we have an image extracted from it in which the professions of “Prompt” disappearance. I am powerfully struck by the possible disappearance of the figure of the tax advisor.
Does the tax advisor disappear?
There are reasons for its disappearance, I don't deny it. Your work can be replaced by a machine, this is undoubted if you have a good application, simple but powerful. But value-wise I'm not so sure. Throughout my life I have encountered all kinds of tax advisers now say, without fear of making mistakes, What this profession can be transformed but I don't think it will disappear, since the value of a good advisor cannot be replaced by a machine. What will happen then?? What, Fortunately, bad tax advisors will disappear.
I think this is, in many cases, the news. Professions do not disappear, mediocre professionals disappear. Back to the advisor, I've met people who deserve to be put on a street in the city: currantes, excellent connoisseurs of the legislation, some lawyers, other economists. They were clear about who the client was but they knew how to clearly express what were the red lines that could not be crossed.. In recent years I came across an advisor who not only did not bring any value but left me with deep economic and legal complications.. The difference is between the good professional and the bad professional, and with that I do not want to deny that the serene no longer exist but that sometimes the professions are transformed, become sophisticated, of adapting to the new times and acquiring new connotations of value. Often this involves the name of the profession change, but the bottom line is still there.
What can you do if your profession is on the list?
If your profession is on the list you need to understand the double meaning of the word crisis: danger and opportunity. And that demands change., but not by profession, but the way you approach it and how you give it real value for your customers.
